Webhook Address Standardization API
Make
Project's Category
Intro
This one takes a raw address string through a webhook, cleans up stray punctuation and spacing, then expands the abbreviations into full words before sending the result back.
Problems
Addresses come in from all kinds of places, forms, imports, other systems, and they never look the same twice. Someone writes 123 Main St., another writes 123 Main Street, and a system further down the pipeline that expects one consistent format breaks on the difference.
Solutions
We built a Make scenario behind a webhook. It takes whatever address string comes in, formats it as clean JSON, strips out periods, and collapses any doubled up spaces. Then a chain of replace steps expands every common abbreviation, Ave to Avenue, St to Street, Dr to Drive, and directions like N and S to North and South, so the response that comes back is always in one consistent, spelled out format.
Final Thoughts
It looks like a small chore, expanding St into Street, but small inconsistencies are exactly what break address matching, shipping labels, and geocoding further downstream. A single webhook that always returns the same clean format is cheap insurance against a much messier problem later.
